• This Mercury 8 Sigma 7 Patch measures 3 inches in diameter and was produced by NASA's official patch manufacturer, AB Emblem. Sigma 7 was flown by Astronaut Wally Schirra, one of the original Mercury 7. Schirra orbited the Earth a total of 6 times in his Mercury capsule on October 3, 1962, in what was a 9 hour flight. The objectives of the flight were focused primarily on technical evaluation as opposed to scientific experimentation.
